Nostalgia can be a big selling point, and nothing hits those fond-memory receptors quite like taste and smell. So it was exciting to see the newest special release from ready-to-drink brand Tip Top is a reprisal of a drink from a beloved bar no longer with us: the Tia Mia from Brooklyn bar Leyenda. The playful, mezcal-driven riff on a classic Mai Tai was a staple of the bar, created by co-founder Ivy Mix.
Launched in 2019 in their signature Lilliputian cans, Tip Top cocktails made a name for themselves in a rapidly growing category. Partnering with renowned bartender Miles Macquarrie (Atlanta’s Kimball House), Tip Top dialed in their formulas, mostly sticking to the classics. But with the concept proven, Tip Top began to tap other notable bartenders in the industry to bring some of their most famous drinks to the can, like Sam Ross’s Paper Plane and Joaquín Simó’s Naked & Famous.
The Tia Mia by Ivy Mix combines a lightly smoky mezcal with a Jamaican rum, orange curaçao, orgeat, and lime juice. Earthy, smoky, and refreshingly sweet-tart, the Tip Tip Cocktails Tia Mia delivers an impressive rendition of the modern classic. A canned cocktail may never be able to fully replicate the experience of a bespoke cocktail from your favorite bar, but this one at least offers a delicious sip of nostalgia. $23.99, 4-pack, tiptopcocktails.com
